Overview
DID Chrysler’s previous German owners force the Volkswagen Caravelle-style proportions onto the latest version of its iconic Grand Voyager series? Whatever, the latest people-mover from one of the segment’s pioneers does exactly what it says on the err... box. In top-line CRD Limited guise, there’s an Italian diesel engine to help haul the portly American seven-seater around, while almost every conceivable comfort and convenience item available in this segment is also present. So is the car underneath as square as the styling?

RG Grand Voyager

THE fourth-generation Chrysler people-mover (and the second version to be sold in Australia since early 1997) brought a number of refinements to what is essentially the same package as the GS Voyager. For a time, Chrysler even got creative and offered long and short wheelbases and front or all-wheel drive, but the basic seven-seater arrangement remained, as did the availability of the company’s long-serving 128kW/278Nm 3.3-litre OHV V6 petrol engine, driving through a four-speed automatic. The Series II from November 2004 ditched the short wheelbase, but introduced ‘Stow ‘n Go’ to greatly enhance load-carrying capacity.
