Overview
THERE are many people downsizing from large people-movers or SUVs who want a car that delivers all-important fuel economy and city-driving flexibility while maintaining the ability to cart seven occupants around. Kia's new Rondo answers the call for a mid-size four-cylinder family-friendly seven-seater that won’t break the bank and has loads of safety features to boot. The smart, euro-styled Rondo proves that a people-mover does not necessarily have to look like a bread box to serve its duties, too.

Kia Carens
July 2000-December 2001
Kia's late, unloved Carens was based on the Shuma platform and had seating for six occupants. The engine was a 1.8-litre engine also sourced from the Shuma sedan/hatch range and produced 81kW at 5750rpm and 152Nm of torque at 4500rpm. The 1.8-litre drove through the front wheels via a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. The Carens manual was $23,990 and the auto $2000 extra.
